Magazine and other clippings, hand-printed honey comb on paper
Last Night As I Was Sleeping (excerpt)
Last night as I lay sleeping
I dreamt--marvelous error--
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart
and the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey
from my old failures.

"Fight Fire With Fire" salutes Julia Collier Harris's scathing editorials attacking the KKK, lynching, and injustice from 1921 - 1929.
As co-owner and co-editor of the Columbus Enquirer-Sun in Columbus, Georgia, she wrote the majority of editorials that focused a fiery spotlight on the murderous activities of these cruel, heartless tyrants.
The Pulitzer Prize for Public Service was awarded to the newspaper in 1926. Articles from the paper were regularly re-published in major newspapers across the U.S.
Julia's courage, and that of her husband, Julian (who also served as co-owner and co-editor), was met with silence from corrupt politicians and inaction from complicit law officers--many of whom were KKK members.
In 1929, with their equipment vandalized and a financially devastating KKK-demanded boycott, the Harris' sold the paper. Over the next 20 years, they repaid the debt and continued work as journalists.
In addition to these challenges, early in their marriage, the couple endured the loss of their two children, Charles, age 4, and Pierre, age 3, within nine months of one another.
Julia's niece, Penny Hart said, "...She was strong as battery acid. No smelling salts lady."

Collars for Cats? Seriously? Misguided attempts to force your ideas or "know what's best" may result in disastrous outcomes. Nobody has all the answers for someone else. Don't abandon your own good sense, especially in the madness of a crowd. Stop and think. For yourself.
Hand-painted paper, gold chain, photos, magazine pages, and more.
